Access to clean water and modern energy services has improved everywhere, but remains low in some developing region like Nigeria. Poor access to both of these services has a huge impact on health and survival, while also increasing the workloads of both women and men. In settings where women and men do not have equal access to health services, inadequate water, sanitation and hygiene may result in more female than male deaths.

The states were ranked based on their performances in the 3 indicators listed below with the state with the best intervetions in 2015 is ranked 1, and the worst ranked 37.
